Changes In The Professional Environment:
Professional environment has changed to a very demanding environment. Every customer is looking for value for the money and more(output) for less (spend). This makes the professional life very challenging and of course very interesting as it require a lot of innovative thinking.
Required Reading:
Jack welch's Winning All books of Malcolmn Gladwell (Blink, Outliers) Lance Amstrong's Boigraphy A must read religious books in your mother tongue and something about your own religion. They give a lot of strength.
Degrees That Matter:
Keep yourself upgraded. Recommendations PMP, Tech certifications(oracle, JAava etc.,) or domain certifications
Growth Strategy:
My policy is to have something new in my resume every year, which is either though a role change in the organization or through certain academic course/professional certifications. I am active in most of the organization wide initiatives that increases the visibility. I maintain key relationships.
Done Differently:
That would be great to start it all over again. I would probably stick on to one steam of work, which could have given the much better professional advancement. I lost time when I switched jobs wherein my domains changed from one to other with not to much of a specialization on one domain.
Job Profile:
My role in HCL today is Head of Product Engineering for Capital Markets products /IPs and Framework. There are multiple IP development initiatives done for Capital Markets domain. Out of which, a generic customer on boarding solution that had won the award, the most innovative HCL solution in 2011
Role Model:
There are multiple role models for me in my career. I was fortunate enough to have many of my managers as my coach & career guide who helped me to shape up my career. But my role model any day is Indira Gandhi. While most of us crib about politics at work, as a bold lady she managed the politics:-)
Prized Accomplishment(s):
- A career graph with no breaks in spite of the personal responsibilities and commitments - Multiple awards and certification of excellence in all the organizations that I have worked - Successful completion of every assignment that has been given to me so far in this 17 years of career
Working Life Management:
A big thanks to my husband for his support and we are equal partners in true sense. I manage my schedules based on relative importance of tasks. For a work related travel, an alternate arrangement is made at home. For a critical care at home, my second line is entrusted with responsibilities at work
Advice For New Professionals:
Aim for the excellence and that is the only way. Everyone remembers a job that is well done even if it has taken time.
