Growing as Leader:
I am continuously learning! I just attended the General Management Program from IIM-A in Jan'12 in Bhutan. I also completed my Advanced Certification in Extended DISC in Feb'12.I am an avid reader, am a member of entrepreneurial networks and constantly network which helps me meet different people.
The Journey So Far:
Its been 15 eventful years in Sales,Operations and Human Resources across industries like Media and Publications, BPO/KPO, IT and Talent Consulting. Started with being a Sales person to being a Director of HR & Training to now being a Founder of a new venture!
Challenges Faced:
Not being given an opportunity Unequal pay Sexual Discrimination Not given the tools and resources to perform Have to work extra hard to be just visible or heard Develop a rough skin, when u fall, get up, brush off the dust, put dettol on your wounds and go on and on till u succeed!
Top Leadership Qualities:
Leadership means that you now have the responsibility and accountability to change people's lives for the better. My strongest leadership attributes are people positiveness, perseverance, resilience, ability to inspire and influence people.
What I Would Have Done Differently:
I would reach out to all those people around me with complementing skills and take their help at work and at home. I know now that I am not a super woman.Tackle people with the right thinking and strategy as everyone is different. Would balance work and life and pay more attention to my health.
Changes Since I Joined:
MNC's have brought in equal pay, equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion teams, much more flexible working environment. Social Media has kicked in for recruitment, networking, branding etc. Online tools for govt compliances, training, learning, doing business have shrunk the world!
A Fine Balance:
First of all accepting that working is my choice. Then by writing down what tasks are important, urgent and which of these need me and only me to do them. The next step is to enlist the help of friends, family, colleagues who can support you. Most importantly accept its ok to go wrong & be imperfect
Advice For New Entrants:
Believe in your potential, don't let anyone tell you that you are a lesser mortal Have the courage to rise when ever you fall Raise your voice against harassment Don't compromise on your values for the fruits that you will earn Love being yourself Hone your skills and talents, don't give them up
Advice For Fellow Leaders:
Bring changes in ur home/life before trying to bring changes in the world. A happy home & a happy u are very important to spreading the happiness quotient. Shatter the glass ceiling by taking it one step at a time. Feel blessed to be a woman as u truly are a life giver, the nurturer &the gamechanger
Prized Accomplishment:
Proud to be where I am in spite of my childhood financial difficulties with a sick dad and a mother who would struggle to meet both ends. Getting through my education, having my own house, getting married with my own money, going up to the ranks of Sr. Mgmt at work and now being the founder of a fir
