Family Background
I was born and raised in Chandigarh. My father is an Asst. General Manager with the Reserve Bank of India and my mother is a homemaker. My younger brother is currently a Mechanical Engineering student at my alma mater, IIT Kharagpur.
Contribution to the field
Being a leader in the oil and gas service industry, Schlumberger is second to none when it comes to excellence in technology. Its core values, which essentially are its commitment to technology, safety and well being of its employees and sustainable growth act as the driving force of my career.
Opinion on women leaders:
Women, when they have decided to devote themselves to a cause, have proven themselves over and over and even outperformed men at many occasions. Be it PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi or latest Olympic sensation MC Mary Kom. High integrity and a driven approach are more commonly found in women than men.
Attributes of Leadership:
Leadership is as much about acknowledging failures as celebrating successes. The effectiveness of my leadership should be judged by how well my team faces the period of a failed venture and whether they could look up to me during those times.
Scaling up the ladder:
It is the beginning of my career as I have recently graduated from IIT Kharagpur and joined Schlumberger as a Field Engineer.
Achieving Success:
The belief in their own capabilities and a drive to succeed.
Success through professionalism:
Every contribution I make to world's GDP is an inspiration in itself to work harder. My work is not only my independence but also a definitive extension of my existence in the world.
Suggestions:
Just believing in yourself would do.
Challenges faced:
The biggest challenge can be society's lopsided faith in you. If you've learnt to deal with your boss who has his expectations based on your gender, you've cracked it. Women sometimes need to go an extra mile to prove themselves.
Managing:
Being very clear about priorities. And switching off the work button when at home.
Book/Websites to go through:
'The Goal' by E. M. Goldratt is a personal favourite.
